Minwa to kamishibai no ie

We have preserved approximately 2,000 Japanese picture card shows dating back to the early Showa period. Additionally, we showcase various forms of storytelling and entertainment. These include “emakimono,” where stories unfold by scrolling through illustrated scrolls; the “nozoki-karakuri,” a booth-type contraption that allows you to enjoy stories by peering through small holes; live performances of picture card shows placed on the cargo bed of a vintage bicycle; and folktales narrated by skilled storytellers.
Through these explanations and live demonstrations in our small theater, you can gain insight into the world of folktales and picture card shows. This provides you with the opportunity to learn about and experience this captivating realm firsthand.
